Erin Adds to Rain Threat for Weekend

Tropical moisture remains stuck over the Chicago area thisweekend, giving us the threat of showers and a few thundershowers.Some leftover moisture from former Hurricane Erin will add to the"soup" already in place, giving the area at least a 50; 50 chance ofrain today.

If you are traveling downstate in Illinois or Indiana, some ofthe rainfall could produce lowland flooding today. Areas south ofKankakee and Gary, Ind., have had several inches of rain in the lastthree days, and any additional rainfall will likely cause someproblems.

Slightly drier air will try to move in on Sunday. There stillis a chance of showers on Sunday, but it looks as if some sunshinewill try to break through. Plan on taking an umbrella to the Air andWater Show both today and Sunday, and keep the sunglasses andsunscreen handy especially for Sunday.

With all the tropical humidity in the atmosphere, visibilitywill be somewhat reduced along the lakefront, possibly posing aproblem for pilots and spectators.

Winds Sunday will be from the east at speeds of 10 to 18 m.p.h.,with the water temperature a balmy 73 degrees.
